Salary:Salaries for military careers vary based on factors such as rank held and number of years served, starting out at $1,516.20 and increasing from there. The BLS says that job assignment or qualifications can be reasons for additional pay and, on top of a monthly salary, those in service receive a housing allowance or are housed on bases rent-free. Additionally, they are entitled to receive medical care at military hospitals and financial assistance with part of the costs of college.

Demand for this particular career:Members of the U.S. military service maintain the U.S. national defense. While some service members work in occupations specific to the military, such as fighter pilots or infantrymen, many work in occupations that also exist in the civilian workplace, such as nurses, doctors, and lawyers. Members serve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps,or Coast Guard, or in the Reserve components of these branches, and in the Air National Guard and Army National Guard.
