Dermatologist
Duties
and Responsibilities: Dermatologists
are physicians who treat conditions related to the skin, though they may also
treat disorders related to the hair and nails. Dermatologists undergo
additional specialized training beyond receiving a medical degree to become
experts in skincare, and they must also obtain a license to practice.
Salary:
A new female dermatologist may
find, over time, that her male counterparts earn more, as of publication. In
the Medscape compensation report, male dermatologists reported median pay of
$300,000, while female dermatologist's received median pay of $262,500.
Education:
College, earning a bachelor's
degree. Medical school, becoming a
medical doctor (MD) or doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO). Internship, 1 year
of required medical training. An accredited dermatology residency program, at
least 3 years.
Demand
or Need for this profession: This career is only for people who are willing to put in a lot of hard
work to gain the required certification necessary to practice dermatology.
Dermatologists need to be able to deal with a wide range of exotic skin and
hair conditions. They must not cringe if they see anything unusual in their
patients since it is quite likely that they will encounter people with
conditions that affect their appearance significantly.
