Duties
and Responsibilities:
All emergency medical
technicians are responsible for rushing to the scene of crisis and can perform
basic life-saving techniques, including: Patient assessment. Burn management.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Salary:
The BLS reports the median
annual salary for EMTs and paramedics was $31,700 in 2014. The best-paid 10
percent in the profession made approximately $54,690, while the lowest-earning
10 percent made approximately $20,690.
Education:
The National Registry of
Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) is the certifying agency for EMTs and
paramedics. Once you complete EMT certification training, you'll be required to
pass written and practical exams. NREMT certifies emergency medical
professionals at different levels: EMT, AEMT (Advanced) and Paramedic.
Demand
or need for this profession: The projected percent change in employment from 2014 to 2024. The average
growth rate for all occupations is 7 percent.
